ABOUT THE TAXI COUNCIL OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA

The Taxi Council of Western Australia Inc. is recognised as the peak industry body in Western Australia. Membership is open to all taxi drivers, taxi owners, taxi companies, management companies and associations.

The Executive Council are elected representatives whom meet regularly to discuss issues and devise strategies for improving taxi industry viability and services. Current issues facing the industry, include :- industry funding and roles, new market opportunities, maintaining taxi access to expressways and ranks, improving standards, customer service and industry viability.

The Activities of the Taxi Council

In order to develop and promote policies and practises aimed at improving the industry, the Taxi Council of Western Australia consults widely with Industry Stakeholders and other organisations. Partnerships with the WA Police, Transport Workers Union, Perth City Council and local Accords, Tourism and other industries are established fostering open communication and the development of common business objectives.

Activities embroiled under this charter include:

  • Lobbying local, state and federal Government for necessary improvements and changes
  • Communication with members, industry and external stakeholders (through meetings, WA Taxi News Magazine, Bulletins and Web Page)
  • Provider of industry information, advice and consultation
  • Working with private organisations, consultants, local and State Government to improve taxi rank facilities
  • Production of "WA Taxi News" The Official Taxi Council Magazine, published and distributed bi-monthly
  • Promoting quality standards - driver, vehicle and service
  • Obtaining funding to provide free ‘English Training Courses’ for Perth taxi drivers
  • Affiliation and membership of the National Body, A.T.I.A. (Australian Taxi Industry Association).
  • Recognition of drivers delivering outstanding service - “WA Cabbie - Proud to be” Awards
  • Supervised, and regular, taxi ranks - locations and operations
  • Commissioning of customer service surveys
  • Project development and maintenance
