SUPERVISED TAXI RANKS

When going to popular nightspots, such as, Northbridge, Subiaco, City, Scarborough, Claremont or Fremantle, make sure you use a supervised taxi rank to catch a taxi home. These 'supervised ranks' are staffed with security personnel and generally operate on Friday and Saturday Nights between 11pm and 5am. Taxis service these ranks and you are more likely to get a taxi sooner by catching one at this type of rank. For more information about the supervised rank locations and operating hours, click here “supervised ranks”.

Use Taxis in quiet times

When possible, plan your taxi trip/s for quiet days. Generally, quiet taxi times are Tuesday and Wednesday. If you plan your trips during these times, chances are that you will not have to wait as long for your taxis service. Of course, this is not always possible, so remember to ring in advance in the busy times and allow extra time.

In all cases, you will improve your chances of catching a cab if you try and remember the following “4 P’s”.

  • Presentability – make sure you look presentable
  • Patience – be patient, especially in the busy times
  • Planning – prepare for your taxi’s arrival. Make sure you ring early in busy times, are ready for your taxi’s arrival and have reasonable change to pay the driver
  • Prepayment – offer your driver payment in advance of the journey

When out on Friday and/ or Saturday Night, be smart and use a supervised rank to catch a taxi home! Not only are these ranks staffed with security personnel, more taxis use these ranks, so that means you will get a taxi sooner.

Supervised Taxi Ranks are staffed by security personnel and usually operate in high-density public areas on Friday and Saturday nights between the hours of 11pm and 5am. Taxis patronise these ranks at these busy times (usually over phone bookings and street hails) because they know that patrons will be waiting and are in an orderly state. Patrons use the supervised ranks because they have security personnel protection whilst waiting for a taxi and know they will get a taxi sooner than trying to hail, or phone, a taxi.

The Taxi Industry supplies three supervised ranks to the public, these are located at;
Northbridge: Milligan Street (alongside Rosie O’Grady’s towards Roe Street)
Northbridge: William Street between Francis and James Street
Fremantle: South Terrace (near the markets)
