TAXI VEHICLES AND SERVICES

There are over1100 taxis operating in Perth.

Most taxis, are regular sedan or station-wagon type of vehicles capable of carrying four passengers (although some can carry five passengers). These regular taxis generally operate 24-hours per day, seven days per week.

When phoning for a taxi, make sure you advise the operator of any special requirements (e.g. a 5-seater taxi or wheelchair taxi). If you have any special requirements for the driver, specify these to the operator (e.g. female driver, registered taxi tour-guide driver, or German-speaking driver). Where possible, the taxi company will endeavour to satisfy your needs.

In addition to the regular taxis, there is a smaller fleet of 'special taxis', these include:

  • 81 x Multi Purpose Taxis (specially designed and equipped to carry wheelchair-bound passengers or multiple passengers);
  • 102 x Peak Period Restricted Taxis (these 'van-type' taxis are capable of carrying up to 6-8 passengers and operate on Friday and Saturday Nights and in special busy periods);

TAXI SERVICES

Taxis provide a unique door-to-door transport service, 24-hours a day/7 days a week.

In addition to the regular passenger door-to-door service, taxis and drivers can also be hired to undertake;

  • Courier work and parcel pick-up and delivery;
  • Wedding Cars;
  • Funeral Cars; and
  • Personalised Tour Guides.

MULTI PURPOSE TAXIS - CATERING FOR PASSENGERS WITH DISABILITIES

Perth Taxi Fleet has 81 special 'Multi Purpose Taxis' to cater for passengers with disabilities - particularly those with mobility aids, such as wheelchairs and scooters.

The Multi Purpose Taxis are fitted with hydraulic lifts, enabling passengers in wheelchairs and scooters to be loaded directly into the taxi, where they are secured and transported to their destination.

The Drivers of these taxis undergo additional training to increase their understanding, knowledge and skills required to effectively cater for passengers with disabilities.

Since the service was introduced in 1983, there has being a growing demand for the service. Black and White Taxis coordinate and manage the fleet of Multi Purpose Taxis.
Bookings and information about the service, can be obtained through contacting Black and White Taxis on 136294.

When the Multi Purpose Taxis are not required for wheelchair work, the taxis can quickly be re-configured to enable them to transport individuals or groups of five, or more, passengers. This versatility assists the fleet in busy periods.
