TAXI VEHICLE STANDARDS

When catching a taxi in Perth, you can be assured of a quality vehicle and driver. Taxis are all licensed and undergo annual inspections to ensure that high standards of safety , cleanliness and comfort are maintained.

Taxi vehicles cannot be more than eight (8) years old and are required to be kept clean and in a good mechanical order. In addition to their annual inspection, the Department for Planning & Infrastructure conduct inspections to ensure all vehicles comply with the standards.

TAXI DRIVER STANDARDS

The Taxi Industry has strict standards for taxi drivers, including:

  • Entry Standards; Medical, Police Clearance and Aptitude Testing requirements;
  • Comprehensive Induction Training encompassing a National Training Program in Geography,
  • Professional Driving, Customer Service, Safety and other important competencies;
  • Advanced Training for Multi Purpose and Taxi Tour Guide Drivers; and
  • Compulsory Professional Development Training for all drivers, every two years.
    In addition, all taxi drivers must belong to a taxi company and wear that company's approved driver uniform.

All licensed Taxi Drivers are registered with the Department for Planning & Infrastructure’s Taxi Unit and issued with an official Driver Identification Card. This Identification Card must be displayed in a prominent position inside the taxi.
